In the 1980s, Intel and Microsoft collaborated to create the personal computer (PC). Intel developed the hardware, while Microsoft built the Windows operating system on top of it. This partnership revolutionized access to computing power.

A similar principle applies today in the GenAI era. Large Language Models (LLMs) can be seen as the “hardware.” However, to unlock their full potential, LLMs require an equivalent of “Windows” to drive meaningful change.

This belief inspired Dheeraj Pandey to found DevRev.ai.

“DevRev is like an operating system that makes LLM technology beneficial for all organizations,” said Dheeraj during a recent visit to Jakarta.

Dheeraj’s conviction is grounded in experience. He co-founded Nutanix, a company that introduced a simpler, software-driven infrastructure model. Now, alongside his former Nutanix colleague Manoj Agarwal, Dheeraj is pioneering DevRev with the same core idea: to build a platform that simplifies LLM adoption in the enterprise world.

This vision has captured significant attention. In 2024, DevRev reached unicorn status (a company valued at over US$1 billion), just three years after its founding—making it one of the fastest-growing AI-based companies to achieve this milestone.

What is DevRev?

At its core, DevRev is a platform for building conversational AI on top of enterprise data. It enables users to create task-specific conversational AI agents or applications.

Using natural language, anyone within an organization can ask AI to retrieve information, summarize reports, or generate predictions.

DevRev offers three key capabilities that set it apart:

  1. Enterprise Data Search

“Much like how Google Search simplifies finding information online, DevRev enables searching internal enterprise data, whether structured or unstructured,” explained Dheeraj.

DevRev can search across diverse data types and sources, including sales, customer, and engineering data.

  1. Reasoning and Synthesis
    DevRev can understand and integrate multiple pieces of information into cohesive knowledge. This allows AI agents to provide accurate, context-aware responses to user queries.
  2. Workflow Management
    DevRev empowers AI agents to execute tasks that previously required human intervention, automating processes across various business functions.

“With these three pillars, DevRev can be used to create AI agents tailored to a company’s specific needs,” Dheeraj noted.

To help organizations quickly adopt Conversational AI, DevRev provides several ready-to-use AI agents, such as those designed for customer experience.

A simple scenario:
A customer reports an issue with a digital product. An AI agent instantly responds by accessing FAQs, support documents, and records of similar complaints in support tools like Zendesk or Slack. Based on this information, the agent can provide the appropriate response to the customer.

At the same time, the AI agent detects if multiple customers report the same issue. This information is automatically forwarded to a project management tool like Jira, enabling development teams to investigate and resolve the problem.

This illustrates how an AI agent built on DevRev can seamlessly perform search, analytics, and manage customer service workflows.

Beyond customer experience, DevRev also provides pre-built AI agents for employee experience and developer experience. However, Dheeraj emphasizes that DevRev is highly customizable, allowing companies to build AI agents for other specific purposes.

“For example, you can create AI agents for revenue operations that analyze a company’s financial data,” Dheeraj illustrated.

Technology Behind DevRev

To deliver such advanced capabilities, DevRev has developed proprietary technology tailored to the reality that enterprise data often exists in different formats and scattered locations.

According to Dheeraj:

“10–15 years ago, companies adopted standalone solutions like ERP, CRM, and project management,” he explained.

To address this, DevRev created two proprietary technologies: Airdrop and the Knowledge Graph.

  • Airdropconsolidates data from various sources and formats.

“Airdrop sits alongside existing systems and coexists with legacy infrastructure,” Dheeraj clarified.

  • The Knowledge Graphacts as the “brain,” organizing and understanding all aggregated data. By leveraging LLM technology, it synthesizes information into cohesive knowledge.

“The more data sources you connect, the better the reasoning becomes,” Dheeraj stated.

Commitment to Indonesia

With DevRev’s capabilities, Dheeraj aims to make a meaningful impact on organizations worldwide, including those in Indonesia.

“Indonesia has 3.1 million developers contributing to GitHub, the third-largest in Asia,” Dheeraj noted.

He hopes DevRev can empower Indonesian developers to build AI applications and agents tailored to local needs.

Furthermore, Indonesia’s young workforce is already familiar with GenAI tools. DevRev can help enhance the productivity of this generation.

“I believe the key to improving productivity is knowledge,” added Dheeraj.

DevRev’s ability to enable employees to access knowledge using natural language will be a crucial tool in boosting efficiency and innovation.

However, Dheeraj also emphasized that DevRev’s success depends on collaboration with various stakeholders to create impactful AI agents.

“That’s why DevRev remains committed to fostering communities around the world, including in Indonesia,” Dheeraj concluded.
